Nok's Kitchen On Stockbridge

If you're wandering through the cobbled streets of Edinburgh’s elegant Stockbridge neighborhood and feel the craving for authentic Thai cuisine, Nok's Kitchen On Stockbridge might just be your perfect stop. Tucked away at 8 Gloucester St, Edinburgh EH3 6EG, this cozy little gem has become a local favorite for both lunch and dinner. Whether you’re a solo diner or planning a relaxed evening with friends, Nok’s Kitchen delivers that warm, welcoming Thai experience-with a contemporary twist.

Unlike many Thai restaurants that try too hard to Westernize their menu, Nok’s Kitchen stays true to its roots. The dishes here aren’t just good-they’re memorable. You’ll hear locals raving about the King Prawn Pad Thai, a classic done to perfection with just the right amount of wok-char and tamarind sweetness. If you're looking for something lighter, the Tuna Salad brings a refreshing zing with lemongrass, chili, and fresh herbs.

Looking to start your meal with something warm and comforting? The Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce is creamy, smoky, and loaded with flavor, while the Steamed Dumplings melt in your mouth and come beautifully plated. For soup lovers, Tom Yum never disappoints. That balance of sour, spicy, and umami is spot on.

One of the standouts here is the Curry Sea Bass-delicate fish, expertly cooked, bathed in a fragrant, spicy curry that dances between heat and coconut creaminess. It’s not something you’ll easily find elsewhere in Edinburgh. The Green Thai Curry is another favorite among regulars, often paired with a side of Sticky Rice to soak up every last drop.

Vegetarians and vegans aren’t left out either. The Garden Dumplings and Vegetable Spring Rolls are flavorful enough to convert even the meat-lovers at your table. Nok’s also serves vegan dishes, halal food, and a variety of healthy options, making it an inclusive spot for a wide range of dietary needs.

Another big plus? Nok’s Kitchen isn’t just about the food. They offer a full drink selection, from Thai-inspired cocktails and spirits to a thoughtfully curated list of wines and beers. Their coffee also surprises, making it a great place to unwind after a meal. And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, the Thai Custard Cake is a must. Pair it with a glass of dessert wine and thank us later.

If you’re a night owl, you’ll appreciate that they also serve late-night food-a rare find in Stockbridge, especially with this level of quality.

The vibe inside Nok’s Kitchen is intimate and charming. It’s not a large space, but it feels personal rather than cramped. It’s worth noting, though, that accessibility is limited-there’s no wheelchair-accessible entrance or toilet. Still, for those who can visit, the ambiance is enhanced by thoughtful decor and genuinely warm service.

They offer takeaway too, so if you're in a hurry or want to enjoy Thai flavors from the comfort of home, that’s a solid option. But honestly, dining in gives you a better feel for what makes Nok’s special-the plating, the aroma, the attention to detail.

There are plenty of Thai restaurants in Edinburgh, but few deliver on consistency, quality, and authenticity the way Nok’s does. They manage to balance traditional Thai flavors with a polished dining experience that doesn’t feel forced or overdone. Every plate looks like a work of art, yet the flavors are deep, comforting, and familiar.

You’ll see why Nok’s Kitchen On Stockbridge is regularly listed among the top-rated Thai spots in Edinburgh. Whether it’s the beautifully presented Tempura Prawns, the spicy and satisfying Drunken Noodles, or the fresh and vibrant Duck Salad Bird in the Garden, there’s something on the menu that’ll stick with you.

If Thai food is your thing-or if you’re curious to try dishes that go beyond the basics-this place should be on your radar. Nok’s Kitchen has quietly built a loyal following, and once you taste what they’re cooking, you’ll understand why.

Have visited 3 times now with my family & have to say it’s an incredible restaurant. Highly recommend the cooking is exceptional. We have tried many dishes & were all high quality in taste , appearance & quality of ingredients. The service is also the best & they are extremely attentive & just so friendly & efficient. I have eaten Thai food all over the world & this place up there as one of the best. Just book ahead of time to make sure you get a table. We will be back when visiting Edinburgh next time.

Small, very busy restaurant with fantastic service, the food wasn’t quite what I was expecting, perhaps I ordered the wrong thing but I just didn’t find it that authentic. The tempura prawns were definitely more panko and the Thai curry sauce was very thick and clawing, I ordered with medium rare steak but unfortunately it arrived more rare and unrested resulting in the bloody juices leaking into the coconut cream sauce which just looked very unpleasant. On a positive the crab dumplings (I think that’s what they were) were really tasty and again the staff were all really friendly.

First time at Nok’s kitchen, amazing food, and brilliant service, took our 12 year old son for a special family occasion and he loved the sizzling stir fry, very good portion sizes. Definitely recommend the shared starter, and my partner was raving about his nutty curry, will definitely be back

We were a large group of eight people including two children. The food was delicious and hot. We had the chicken skewers and vegetable rolls. My husband and I had the duck curry and chicken pad thaï. The curry was creamy and savory. As for the pad thaï, it was delicious and slightly different than some of the ones found in North America. The taste was more authentic, not as sweet. My daughter had the dumplings (starter) as a main course. There was also a kid's menu, but it was fried chicken fingers and rice. My friends had the vegetable Pad thaï, the grilled chicken curry and the prawn dish (forgot the name). The portion was a good size. Perhaps we were hungry, but there was no food on the plate!
